About Rachel

Hi, I’m Rachel Poulin, RVT, VTS (SAIM), a credentialed veterinary technician and Veterinary Technician Specialist in Small Animal Internal Medicine. I have spent more than 20 years caring for dogs and cats.

Over those years, I’ve helped pet owners understand complex diseases and learn complicated care routines. I’ve seen how scary and frustrating it can feel when your pet’s diagnosis turns everyday life upside down—and how much love goes into every medication, feeding, and late-night worry about whether you’re doing it right.

Again and again, I met kind, devoted owners doing everything they could for their pets. What they needed was a little more time, attention, and a chance to work through their questions one-on-one with an experienced veterinary technician.

That’s why VetTech Explains was born.

This is a place for clear, practical explanations that help you understand your pet’s care, ask informed questions, and feel more confident at home. Whether you’re facing a new diagnosis or bringing your pet home after an ER visit, you deserve to feel supported as you learn.

When I’m not working on VetTech Explains, I travel across the country to lecture and teach veterinary technicians at conferences. When I’m home, I pick up local per diem shifts, staying connected to hands-on patient care and the work I love.
